The Universidade Federal do Rio Grande do Sul (UFRGS) is a prominent Brazilian public institution of higher education, founded in 1934 and located in Porto Alegre, the capital of Rio Grande do Sul. This is attributed to factors such as student performance on the Enade test, exceptional infrastructure, highly qualified faculty, and strong indicators in postgraduate programs.

The university continues to maintain its status as the best federal university in Brazil, as confirmed by the National Institute for Educational Studies and Research Anísio Teixeira (Inep), part of the Ministry of Education. In the latest evaluation, UFRGS achieved an impressive General Course Index (IGC) of 4.29, the highest rating on a scale from 1 to 5.

UFRGS has a rich history dating back to the late 19th century when it was initially established as the School of Pharmacy and Chemistry in 1895. Over the years, it expanded to encompass various faculties and institutes, ultimately becoming the Federal University of Rio Grande do Sul in 1968.

The university's extensive campus spans 22,005,051.71 square meters, divided into several campuses, including the Central Campus, Health Campus, Valley Campus, Olympic Campus, and North Coast Campus.
