The journey of 42 began in 2013 when it opened its doors in Paris, introducing a selection phase called "La Piscine." The founders drew inspiration from the book "The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy," where the number 42 symbolized the answer to life's ultimate question. Over the years, it garnered support from prominent figures in the tech industry, such as Evan Spiegel, Jack Dorsey, and Stewart Butterfield.

42's innovative model has been embraced worldwide, with 47 campuses established across the continents. These campuses foster an inclusive environment, focusing on creativity, experimentation, and artistic expression. The buildings are open 24/7, providing students with access to state-of-the-art IT infrastructure.

Unlike traditional institutions, 42 follows a tuition-free and inclusive approach. Applicants need not hold a specific degree, and even those over 18 without diplomas are welcome. The selection process involves logic and memory tests, followed by a rigorous four-week "pool" phase. Once admitted, students embark on a journey of peer-to-peer learning, free to organize their time as they tackle projects and explore various programming paradigms.

The curriculum is structured into two main parts. The core curriculum lasts up to 18 months and covers the fundamentals of programming, including C language and UNIX platforms. The second part allows students to specialize in areas like artificial intelligence, cyber security, and mobile application development. Additionally, 42 offers exchange and specialization programs in collaboration with other institutions, promoting diversity in skill sets.

42's approach is built on project-based learning, teamwork, and peer-to-peer evaluation. Students learn by seeking practical solutions, failing, and iterating—a process akin to video gaming. They earn experience points and progress through levels, fostering a stimulating learning environment.
