Nestled in the vibrant urban fabric of Lima, Peru, University Alas Peruanas (UAP) stands resolute as a bastion of quality private higher education. The institution's genesis on April 26, 1996, was marked by the visionary efforts of its founder, Fidel Ramírez Prado, and it traces its lineage back to the esteemed Peruvian Air Force, imbuing it with a rich aeronautical heritage. Presently, UAP finds itself in a phase of temporary inactivity following the withholding of its license by the National Superintendence of Higher Education (Sunedu).

UAP's historical narrative commenced on June 1, 1996, with the dynamic geographer and historian, Javier Pulgar Vidal, assuming the role of President of the Organizational Commission and Honorary Rector. His indelible influence shaped the institution's early trajectory, and it was during this nascent period that five professional programs were inaugurated, fostering academic exploration within the confines of the Jesús María district.

The timeline of UAP is punctuated by an exceptional achievement—the launch of the UAP SAT-1 satellite by the collaborative efforts of faculty and students in January 2014. This momentous event marked the university's foray into the realm of space exploration and technological advancement.

However, on December 24, 2019, a pivotal juncture emerged in UAP's journey when Sunedu denied the institution's licensing due to the non-compliance with fundamental quality benchmarks stipulated in the university law. Consequently, a mandate was issued for the university to cease its activities within two years, starting from the subsequent academic semester. This unforeseen development prompted UAP to announce its merger with the University Norbert Wiener, a strategic move aimed at mitigating any adverse impact on the student body.

The global upheaval caused by the COVID-19 pandemic elicited a response from Sunedu, which extended the period of cessation for universities with denied licenses, including UAP, by an additional three years, acknowledging the unprecedented challenges faced by higher education institutions during this period.

UAP's academic landscape encompasses an intricate mosaic of disciplines, with five faculties offering an array of 25 professional programs. The Faculties of Agropeculiar Sciences, Business and Education, Accountancy and Finance, Sports Sciences, Communication, Early Childhood Education, Primary Education, Tourism, Hospitality, and Gastronomy, Law and Political Sciences, Engineering and Architecture, and Human Medicine, Health Sciences weave a rich tapestry of educational pursuits.

Delving into the realm of postgraduate education, UAP's Graduate School emerges as a harbinger of advanced learning, providing both master's and doctoral programs meticulously designed to nurture specialized expertise and groundbreaking research.

The reach of UAP extends far beyond its central campus, with 19 branches strategically placed across the nation, a testimony to the university's commitment to democratizing access to high-quality education. The central hub in Lima remains a nucleus of academic fervor, where the principles and ideals of UAP resonate most profoundly.

Yet, the annals of UAP's history are not without their share of challenges. In April 2023, the Ministry of Public Intervention intervened at UAP's campuses, spurred by allegations of money laundering against former rector Joaquín Ramírez. The preceding year saw the emergence of evidence, presented by the institution's new leadership, suggesting potential financial discrepancies involving funds of the university being diverted to entities linked to the political party Fuerza Popular.

The present juncture finds UAP in a phase of temporary inactivity, its educational endeavors temporarily paused. However, the legacy etched by its academic accomplishments, challenges surmounted, and resilience displayed echoes a dedication to the principles of education, exploration, and growth.
