National University of Callao Overview

The Universidad Nacional del Callao (UNAC) stands as a testament to Peru's commitment to providing quality education to its citizens. This public university, located in the district of Bellavista within the constitutional province of Callao, was officially established on September 2, 1966, through the enactment of Law No. 16225. From its humble beginnings, UNAC has evolved into a prominent educational institution, offering diverse academic programs and contributing significantly to the nation's academic landscape.

Initially named Universidad Nacional Técnica del Callao (UNATEC), the university embarked on its journey with four faculties: Hydrobiological Resources and Fisheries, Industrial Chemistry, Naval, Industrial, Mechanical, and Electrical Engineering, and Economic and Administrative Sciences. Its establishment was accompanied by the formation of the First Board of UNATEC, comprising six representatives from various public and private institutions. This inaugural board, led by President Remigio Pino Carpio, who was concurrently serving as the President of the Superior Court of Justice of Callao, marked the official launch of UNAC on September 6, 1966.

As the region's educational needs evolved, so did UNAC. In 1976, the university expanded its portfolio of academic programs, responding to the ever-changing demands of the job market. One of the pivotal moments in UNAC's history occurred in 1983, with the promulgation of Law No. 23733. This law bestowed upon the institution its current name, Universidad Nacional del Callao, further solidifying its identity and mission in the realm of higher education.

In 1989, UNAC achieved another significant milestone when it welcomed the prestigious former National School of Nursing "Daniel Alcides Carrión" (ENEDAC) into its academic community. This addition was realized through the establishment of the School of Nursing, expanding the university's academic influence into the critical field of healthcare.

UNAC's main campus, known as Ciudad Universitaria, serves as the focal point of academic and research activities.
