Sakarya University (SAU), situated in the picturesque province of Sakarya, Turkey, has emerged as a beacon of academic brilliance and technological innovation since its official founding in 1992. However, the roots of this esteemed institution trace back to 1970 when the Sakarya School of Engineering and Architecture laid its foundation.

SAU has distinguished itself among its contemporaries, completing its academic and technical infrastructure with remarkable speed. As a testament to its commitment to excellence, it became the first and only state university to earn both the ISO-2002 Quality Certificate and the "EFQM Excellence Competency Level Quality Certificate." This commendable feat underscores SAU's dedication to quality education, cutting-edge laboratories, robust internet infrastructure, and transformative information technology services.

Over time, SAU experienced significant growth and evolution. In 2018, some of its academic units found a new home at the newly established Sakarya Applied Sciences University, marking a pivotal moment in SAU's history.

Presently, SAU boasts an extensive academic community, encompassing 13 faculties, 6 institutes, and 2 colleges, nurturing a diverse array of talents. With over 40,000 undergraduate students, 5,000 associate degree students, nearly 4,000 graduate students, and 1,500 doctoral students, the university thrives on the spirit of intellectual exploration and collaboration. Guiding these inquisitive minds are approximately 1,500 academic staff members, dedicated to shaping the leaders of tomorrow.

The heart of SAU's story lies in its humble beginnings as the Sakarya School of Engineering and Architecture. Over the years, it underwent several transformations, eventually receiving its official status through Law No. 3837 in 1992. The university took flight with five faculties, including Science and Letters, Technical Education, Economics and Administrative Sciences, Theology, and Engineering.

SAU has continued to raise the bar for academic excellence in Turkey. It holds the distinction of being the first university in the country to receive the TS EN ISO 9001:2008 Quality Management System Certificate. Additionally, SAU's pioneering spirit earned it the prestigious National Quality Award under the EFQM Model, acknowledging its achievements in laboratories, internet infrastructure, and various social services.

The accolades showered upon SAU are a testament to its unwavering commitment to quality management and innovation. In 2015, the university received the esteemed European Excellence Award. Not stopping there, in 2018, SAU received two Success Awards in Corporate Talent Development and Adding Value for Customers, further solidifying its reputation as a trailblazer in academic excellence.
