Dartmouth College Overview

Dartmouth College, a distinguished private Ivy League research university located in Hanover, New Hampshire, was established in 1769 by Eleazar Wheelock. As one of the nine colonial colleges predating the American Revolution, its original mission was to educate Native Americans in Christian theology and the English way of life, evolving to train Congregationalist ministers before gradually secularizing. Despite its transition into a research university, Dartmouth retains the title "Dartmouth College" to underscore its commitment to undergraduate education.

Dartmouth's liberal arts curriculum spans 40 academic departments and interdisciplinary programs, offering 60 majors in various fields, from humanities and social sciences to natural sciences and engineering.
