Ranked 200th in the world, the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens (NKUA) stands as the oldest university in Southeast Europe, holding an legacy since its establishment in 1837. Often referred to as the University of Athens (UoA), this distinguished public institution is situated in Zografou, a suburban town within the thriving Athens agglomeration, Greece.

As the first university in the liberated Greek state and Southeast Europe, the University of Athens emerged under the patronage of King Otto of Greece, and its initial faculties included Theology, Law, Medicine, and Arts. Over time, the university expanded, introducing new faculties, departments, and schools, becoming one of Europe's largest institutions with a staggering enrollment of over 69,000 registered students.

Throughout the years, the university underwent transformative changes, including a division in 1911 into the Kapodistrian University and the National University. However, in 1932, these two entities unified to become the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens, forging a new era of academic excellence.
