The Universidad Marcelino Champagnat (UMCH) is a prestigious private Marist institution located in Lima, Peru, a city known for its vibrancy. Established on January 5, 1990, through Law No. 25180, this university has earned a reputation for academic excellence in the region. UMCH received accreditation from the National Superintendence of Higher Education (Sunedu) on October 12, 2017, further cementing its significance in the field of education. UMCH has a rich history that dates back to its origins in 1948 when it was known as the "Escuela Normal Santo Tomás de Aquino" (Santo Tomás de Aquino Normal School). This institution was founded on Marist values and principles, with a mission to nurture future leaders and professionals grounded in education and ethics. In 1974, UMCH moved to the Champagnat College campus in Miraflores, and by 1983, it had assumed the identity of the "Instituto Superior Pedagógico Marcelino Champagnat."

The university was officially established on January 5, 1990, under Law No. 25180 during Alan García's administration, solidifying UMCH's commitment to higher education and its role in shaping the educational landscape of Peru.

In a significant development in 2006, UMCH relocated its campus to Santiago de Surco, responding to the evolving needs of students and creating a modern and conducive learning environment. The former Miraflores campus was repurposed as the University of Piura, highlighting UMCH's dedication to innovation and growth while preserving its core values.

UMCH's journey to excellence culminated on October 12, 2017, when the National Superintendence of Higher Education (Sunedu) granted the university its well-deserved license.
