Kocaeli University Overview

Kocaeli University (KOÜ), located in Kocaeli, Turkey, was established in 1976 under the name "Kocaeli State Academy of Engineering and Architecture." Its initial faculties included Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Basic Sciences, and the Institute of Foreign Languages. Following the enactment of Law No. 2547, Kocaeli State Academy transitioned to Kocaeli University, marking its affiliation with Yıldız Technical University as the Kocaeli Faculty of Engineering in 1982. Subsequently, under Law No. 3837 in 1992, it officially became Kocaeli University. The university began its journey with 6 faculties, 1 vocational school, and 3 institutes.

Today, Kocaeli University (KOU) is a prominent educational institution with 19 faculties, 3 vocational schools, 16 vocational colleges, 4 institutes, and 1 State Conservatory.The university significantly contributes to the country's skilled workforce. It holds a substantial role in Turkey's research and development landscape, housing 24 Research and Application Centers/Units.

With 119 Student Clubs and Communities, Kocaeli University takes a leading role in student activities, promoting social responsibility, cultural engagement, and more.

The university actively participates in international exchange programs:

Erasmus Program: Collaborating with 168 universities from 24 countries, the university has agreements in 66 departments, facilitating student exchanges.

Farabi Program: A national initiative, similar to Erasmus, aimed at fostering exchange among domestic higher education institutions.

Mevlana Program: Focused on facilitating student and faculty exchanges between domestic and international institutions.

By conducting its foreign student exam and educating over 1500 students from various countries, the university embraces technological advancements, offering opportunities for both students and the city to engage in progress. Kocaeli University (KOU) Technopark is actively engaged in exporting to several countries, including the USA, Germany, Azerbaijan, Spain, Switzerland, Russia, Georgia, Kenya, TRNC, Saudi Arabia, Syria, and Greece.

With plans for a newly built Technopark covering 40,000 square meters, the university aims to play a significant role in producing high-value products, developing technology, and meeting the country's needs.
