Ege University Overview

Ege University, also known as Aegean University, is a renowned public research university located in Bornova, İzmir. Established in 1955, it was the first university to offer courses in İzmir and is currently the fourth oldest university in Turkey. With a rich history, Ege University initially had 19 faculties, 9 junior college-type schools, and 8 institutes, but in 1982, a portion of the university separated to form Dokuz Eylül University. Today, Ege University comprises 15 faculties, 6 junior college-type schools, 10 vocational training schools, 9 institutes, and 36 research centers.

Spanning over an impressive 370 hectares, the Bornova Campus of Ege University provides a comprehensive range of facilities for culture, sports, and social services. The campus is easily accessible with well-marked car parks, roads, and traffic signs. Thanks to its strategic location between Ankara, Istanbul, and Izmir, intercity transportation is fast and efficient. The campus is well-connected through phone lines and a computer network, facilitating both national and international communication.

Apart from the main campus in Bornova, Ege University has vocational training schools in Tire, Bergama, Bayındır, and Ödemiş, as well as an Atatürk Cultural Center in Konak, applied educational centers in Urla, Menemen, Mordoğan, Çiğli, and Özdere, and an observatory in Kurudağ. These facilities contribute to the university's mission of serving students and the public through education, science, health, social, and cultural services. Furthermore, a West Campus was recently established in Çeşme to expand these offerings.

Ege University places great emphasis on personal, cultural, social, and professional development alongside its challenging academic programs. The university boasts various venues for cultural activities, including a Culture and Arts Hall, Amphitheater, Atatürk Cultural Center, seminar rooms, theater halls, workshop rooms, and an exhibition gallery. These spaces accommodate performances, exhibitions, seminars, and other events that enrich the student experience. Additionally, student clubs play a significant role in campus life, with 45 active clubs in diverse fields.

The university's annual Sports and Arts Festival is a highly anticipated event, featuring concerts, sports games, cinema and theater presentations, exhibitions, conferences, symposia, fashion shows, and competitions. Student groups from other Turkish universities and foreign countries also participate, fostering a vibrant and inclusive atmosphere.

Ege University offers a summer camp in Özdere with a capacity of 200 beds, providing opportunities for relaxation and entertainment. Additionally, new on-campus student dormitories with a capacity of 2000 students have been constructed to meet the accommodation needs of the students. The Counseling and Advisory Service Department assists in providing accommodation solutions.
