The university was established in 2010 as Konya University, taking its name from Necmettin Erbakan; a prominent Turkish engineer, academic, and politician who founded the National Vision ideology. He held roles as Deputy Prime Minister and Prime Minister. Under its umbrella, NEU encompassed 6 faculties (Faculty of Education Sciences, Faculty of Science, Faculty of Aerospace and Space Sciences, Faculty of Engineering and Architecture, Faculty of Social and Humanities Sciences, and Faculty of Tourism), 3 institutes (Institute of Education Sciences, Institute of Science, and Institute of Social Sciences), and 1 School (School of Foreign Languages).
In 2011, Ahmet Keleşoğlu Faculty of Education, Ahmet Keleşoğlu Faculty of Theology, and Meram Faculty of Medicine, previously part of Selçuk University Rectorate, were integrated into the university.
In 2012, the university's name was changed to Necmettin Erbakan University. Within the same year, the Faculty of Dentistry, Faculty of Fine Arts, Faculty of Health Sciences, Institute of Health Sciences, Turkish Music State Conservatory, and School of Applied Sciences were established.
In 2013, Seydişehir Ahmet Cengiz Faculty of Engineering, Ereğli Faculty of Engineering and Natural Sciences, Ereğli Faculty of Education, Seydişehir Vocational School, Seydişehir School of Health Services, and Konya Ereğli Kemal Akman Vocational School, formerly associated with Selçuk University, were integrated into the university. Simultaneously, the Faculty of Education Sciences was closed, and the School of Justice was founded.
Subsequent developments included the establishment of Ereğli School of Justice in 2014, the Faculty of Law in 2015, the Faculty of Political Sciences, Seydişehir Faculty of Health Sciences, and Meram Vocational School in 2017. The School of Applied Sciences was transformed into the Faculty of Applied Sciences.
Further expansions included the establishment of the Faculty of Nursing in 2018, the Ereğli Faculty of Veterinary Medicine and School of Health Services in 2019, and the transformation of Ereğli Faculty of Engineering and Natural Sciences into the Faculty of Agriculture in 2020.
Necmettin Erbakan University
Dr. Cem Zorlu is an accomplished academic and administrator. He completed his education at Selçuk University, earning a doctorate in Islamic History.
