Yildiz Technical University Overview

During the Conductor School Period, established in 1911 within the Ottoman Empire, the Conductor School aimed to train technicians for civil engineering projects like roads, railways, and bridges. The school's official founding was announced in 1911 after being discussed in the Ottoman Parliament. The program was limited to two years and began in the same year.

Due to time constraints, the Salih Efendi Mansion on Divanyolu Street was allocated as the school's location. Despite challenges like the Tripolitanian War, Balkan Wars, and World War I, the school persisted in its education without interruption.

In the 1930s, it evolved into the Technical School, offering both technician and engineering programs. The Department of Public Works and Natural Sciences emerged in 1923, and the curriculum was expanded. The duration of education was extended, and graduates received engineering officer diplomas.

In the 1930s, further changes led to the implementation of both technician and engineering programs, and the school relocated within the Yıldız Palace complex. Notable advancements include the addition of various departments, including Architecture, Electrical Engineering, and the first Cartography and Cadastre branch in Turkey.

The institution became part of Yıldız University in 1983, expanding its departments and faculties. Over time, Yıldız University embraced modern initiatives such as sustainability and research excellence, receiving recognition for its efforts and accomplishments.

Since 2020, the university has focused on 21st-century advancements, addressing clean energy, scholarship opportunities, and diverse research projects, elevating its national and international profile. It has consistently demonstrated leadership in various fields and continues to drive innovation and progress.

The university's campuses have a significant history, with buildings still in use today. Yıldız Technical University was formed through the merger of the Istanbul State Engineering and Architectural Academy, the Kocaeli State Engineering and Architecture Academy, and related schools and departments. It offers a wide range of programs, including engineering, science, literature, architecture, economics, and administrative sciences.

YTU has achieved notable rankings in various international university rankings. In the QS World University Rankings, it has been ranked within the top 400 in subjects like Electrical & Electronics Engineering, Mechanical, Aeronautical & Manufacturing Engineering, and Physics & Astronomy. It has also achieved rankings in the Academic Ranking of World Universities, U.S. News & World Report, CWTS Leiden Ranking, URAP, and Round University Ranking.
