Sabanci University Overview

Sabancı University, established in 1994 under the guidance of Sabancı Foundation, is a prestigious institution in Turkey. The university's development began with the Search Conference, where academics, students, and industry leaders from various countries participated. The campus design was undertaken by CannonDesign and local architect Turgut Toydemir. The groundbreaking ceremony took place in 1997, and the university started its second academic year in 1999.

Sabancı University comprises three faculties (Engineering and Natural Sciences, Arts and Social Sciences, and Business) and a language school. Its Foundations Development Program consists of two stages: Foundations Development Year and University Courses. All students must take an English Language Assessment Exam (ELAE), and those requiring additional assistance join the Foundations Development Year, which focuses on language courses. After completing this year, students proceed to the University Courses, which form the core curriculum.

The University Courses promote a multidisciplinary approach, establishing connections between natural and social sciences and other disciplines. The freshman year includes courses on various subjects, while the sophomore year focuses on significant literary and artistic works. The curriculum also covers law, ethics, and academic literacies. This comprehensive education equips Sabancı University students to pursue further studies or embark on diverse careers.

Sabancı University has achieved notable rankings, entering the Times Higher Education rankings in 2014 at the 182nd position. It was the highest-ranking Turkish foundation university at the time and one of the top 10 small universities globally. The university has also been recognized as innovative and entrepreneurial, further enhancing its reputation.

The Research and Graduate Policies Directorate oversees various offices and centers, including the Research Process Planning and Policy Development Office, Research Project Development Office, University-Industry Partnership and European Enterprise Network Istanbul, and more. The university is committed to research excellence and collaboration with industry.

Sabancı University hosts several research centers, such as the Integrated Manufacturing Technologies Research and Application Center (SU IMC) and the Nanotechnology Research and Application Center. SU IMC offers research, development, and consultancy services in manufacturing technologies, with a focus on composite materials. It aims to establish global collaborations with industries in sectors like aviation, defense, automotive, and energy. The Nanotechnology Research and Application Center conducts advanced multidisciplinary research in areas such as electronics, healthcare, agriculture, and packaging.

The Istanbul Policy Center (IPC) is a global policy research institution affiliated with Sabancı University. IPC addresses various social and political issues through research clusters, including the Istanbul Policy Center - Sabancı University - Stiftung Mercator Initiative, Democratization and Institutional Reform, and Conflict Resolution and Mediation.
