Andrew Wachtel Overview

Andrew Wachtel, born on February 10, 1959, is a distinguished American scholar, translator, and educator. Currently, he holds the position of Director at Compass College in Bishkek, Kyrgyzstan. From 2018 to 2020, Wachtel served as the esteemed Rector (President) of Narxoz University in Almaty, Kazakhstan. Prior to that, he held the presidency of the American University of Central Asia from 2010 to 2018 and served as the Dean of The Graduate School at Northwestern University from 2003 to 2010. Wachtel's expertise and contributions have earned him prestigious memberships in the Council on Foreign Relations in 2001 and the American Academy of Arts and Sciences in 2003.
