Carine Bernault, a distinguished university professor of Private Law, assumed the esteemed position of President at the University of Nantes on December 16, 2021.

Carine Bernault's journey in academia has been nothing short of remarkable. She embarked on her academic pursuits at Nantes Université, where she pursued a Doctorate in Intellectual Property Law from 1997 to 2000, marking the early stages of her impressive academic career. She also attained a DEA (Diplôme d'Études Approfondies) in Intellectual Property Law in 1996-1997, further solidifying her expertise in the field. Her educational foundation began with a Maitrise in Judicial Careers and Criminal Sciences (1995-1996) and a Licence in Law (1992-1995), all from Nantes Université.

Carine Bernault's extensive professional experience spans over two decades. Her tenure at Université de Nantes, where she currently holds the position of a Professor, commenced in 2013 and has since continued to contribute to the academic community for over a decade. Prior to that, she served as a Maitre de conférences (Lecturer) at Faculté de droit et des sciences politiques for a remarkable 11-year period from 2002 to 2013.

Her expertise in intellectual property law led her to a significant role as an expert in intellectual property for the Ministry of Higher Education and Research (France) from 2008 to 2012. During this time, she played a pivotal role as Sous-Directeur des Technologies de l’Information et de la Communication pour l’Education (Director of Information and Communication Technologies for Education). Bernault's contributions extended further when she assumed the position of 1st Vice-Dean of the Faculty of Law and Political Science in 2012, where she created the Intellectual Property diploma program in distance learning.

Notably, Carine Bernault's involvement in academia has encompassed various facets, including serving as a lawyer with specialization in intellectual property law and obtaining her doctorate in 2000. Her dedication and passion for her field of expertise were evident as she took on roles such as directing the Institute for Research in Private Law (IRDP) at the university from 2014 to 2017 and becoming the vice-president responsible for university reform in 2017. Her trajectory continued to rise, with her appointment as the first vice-president in 2019, culminating in her election as President in July 2020. As of January 1, 2022, Bernault proudly holds the esteemed position of President at Nantes University, where her leadership and expertise continue to shape the institution's academic landscape.
