Carlos Enrique Saavedra Rubilar, born in December 1962 in Santiago, is a Chilean scientist. He studied Physics at Universidad Católica, where he also completed his master's and doctorate degrees, focusing on optical systems' phase fluctuations. He served as a Dean at the Faculty of Physical and Mathematical Sciences and later became the rector of Universidad de Concepción. He is associated with left-wing politics and has been recognized for his academic contributions in the field of optics. He faced challenges during student protests, and controversies over research projects and book launches.
