Dr. Bruce E. Jarrell, MD, FACS, assumed the role of president at the University of Maryland, Baltimore (UMB) in September 2020, following his tenure as interim president. He took over from Dr. Jay A. Perman, MD, who transitioned to the position of chancellor for the University System of Maryland. In April 2012, Dr. Jarrell was appointed as the chief academic and research officer and senior vice president. In this capacity, he served as the central figure overseeing all academic affairs at UMB. He played a crucial role in advancing the university's research initiatives by collaborating closely with UMB administrators, deans, research leaders, and other stakeholders. Working alongside the deans and vice presidents, Dr. Jarrell promoted the core values of the institution, fostering excellence in education, research, clinical practices, and community engagement among faculty, staff, and students.
