Eli Capilouto, born on August 22, 1949, in Montgomery, Alabama, serves as the twelfth president of the University of Kentucky (UK). Prior to this role, he held the position of provost at the University of Alabama at Birmingham (UAB).
Capilouto, who is of Jewish heritage, hails from Alabama and has deep roots in the state. He received his bachelor's degree from the University of Alabama (Tuscaloosa) and pursued his Doctor of Dental Medicine and master's degrees in epidemiology at UAB. Beginning his career in 1975, he became part of the faculty at UAB. Further advancing his education, he earned a doctorate in health policy and management from the Harvard School of Public Health in 1991.
