Elio Franzini, Rector of the University of Milan, is a philosopher and academic leader known for his contributions to the world of aesthetics and philosophy. He embarked on his educational journey by earning his degree in Theoretical Philosophy at the Faculty of Letters and Philosophy of the University of Milan in 1979. This marked the beginning of his lifelong dedication to the pursuit of knowledge.

After completing his undergraduate studies, Elio Franzini continued to delve deeper into the world of philosophy. In 1984, he became a researcher, a role that allowed him to explore philosophical concepts in greater detail. He also gained valuable teaching experience as a professor at the University of Udine.

In 1994, Professor Franzini achieved the prestigious title of a full professor of Aesthetics and Aesthetics of Objects at the University of Milan. This significant milestone in his academic career highlighted his expertise in the field of aesthetics, a discipline that explores the nature of beauty and artistic expression.

From 2004 to 2010, Professor Franzini took on the role of Dean of the Faculty of Letters and Philosophy at the University of Milan. During this time, he demonstrated strong leadership skills and a commitment to fostering excellence in higher education. Before becoming Dean, he had also served as the President of the degree program in Communication Sciences.

Professor Franzini's influence extended to the broader academic community. From 2005 to 2010, he chaired the Conference of Deans of the Faculty of Letters and Philosophy, contributing to collaboration and growth within the academic sector.

In 2011, he assumed the role of Vice-Rector of Programming and didactic services, further showcasing his dedication to academic excellence and innovation.

Beyond his university, Professor Franzini actively participated in various academic and cultural organizations. Notably, he has been the President of the Italian Society of Aesthetics (SIE) since March 2015 and a member of the Academic Senate of the University of Milan since October 2015.

Professor Franzini's intellectual pursuits encompassed an exploration of aesthetics as a bridge between doxa (common belief) and episteme (knowledge). He delved into themes such as artistic creation, symbolism, imagery, and the evolution of aesthetic objects over time and space. His research emphasized the cognitive value of the pre-categorical dimensions of human experience.

In June 2018, Elio Franzini was elected as the Rector of the University of Milan, a position he holds for the six-year term from 2018 to 2024.
