Farnam Jahanian is a prominent Iranian-American computer scientist, entrepreneur, and leader in higher education. He currently holds the position of the 10th president at Carnegie Mellon University. Jahanian was born in Iran and later moved to the United States in 1977, settling in San Antonio, Texas, where he completed his high school education. He pursued his academic journey in computer science, obtaining a Bachelor of Science degree from the University of Texas at San Antonio in 1982. Jahanian went on to further his studies at the University of Texas at Austin, earning a master's degree in 1987 and a PhD in computer science in 1989. Following the completion of his doctorate, he embarked on his professional career at IBM's Thomas J. Watson Research Center, serving as a research staff member from 1989 to 1993.
