Garnett Sue Stokes, born on December 20, 1955, is a distinguished American academic administrator who currently holds the position of the 23rd president at the University of New Mexico. Commencing her role on March 1, 2018, Stokes has made significant contributions to the institution's leadership.
Stokes' journey began in Washington, D.C., where she was born. She embarked on her academic path by attaining a Bachelor of Arts degree in psychology from Carson–Newman University. Her educational pursuits further led her to accomplish a Master of Science and a PhD in industrial and organizational psychology from the esteemed University of Georgia. Through her educational journey and subsequent leadership role, Stokes has demonstrated her commitment to the advancement of higher education.
