Guido Saracco, born on November 24, 1965, in Turin, Italy, is an Italian engineer who has been serving as the Rector of the Politecnico di Torino since March 2018. Guido's academic voyage began when he graduated with honors in Chemical Engineering from the Politecnico di Torino on October 16, 1989. He furthered his academic pursuits and earned a Ph.D. from the same institution in 1994. His commitment to learning led him to become an assistant professor in Chemical Plants at the Politecnico di Torino in 1994, eventually rising to the position of associate professor. In 2003, his expertise was recognized as he became a full professor in Industrial and Technological Chemistry, and in Chemical Technology Fundamentals in 2011.

In 2012, Guido Saracco assumed the role of Head of the Department of Applied Science and Technology (DISAT). His contributions to the field are noteworthy, as he has authored and co-authored 8 patents and has an impressive portfolio of over 500 publications in national and international journals. His academic influence extends far and wide, with an h-index of 52 and over 9,350 citations on Google Scholar.

Guido Saracco's prominence is particularly evident in the field of materials and nano sciences, where he ranks 30 among the top Italian Scientists worldwide. He also played a pivotal role in the Bioenergy Education Group for the development of the Set Plan in the Energy sector of the European Community's H2020 Programme.

Furthermore, he was appointed as an Expert in the National Committee of the Energy sector for the VII Programme Framework by the Ministry of Universities and Scientific Research. He actively participates in the European Energy Research Alliance and heads the Low Temperature Heat Exploitation program. Additionally, he's a member of the European Cluster on Catalysis, supported by the NMP Directorate of the European Community.

In April 2015, Guido Saracco became a member of the Academy of Sciences of Turin, further cementing his role as a prominent figure in the world of academia and research. Since January 2016, he has served as a Senior Scientist at the Italian Institute of Technology and is the coordinator of the Centre for Sustainable Future Technologies at the institute. This center focuses on the vital task of capturing and converting CO2 into valuable products.
