Hauke Heekeren is a distinguished figure in the fields of medicine and cognitive neuroscience. He completed his medical studies at renowned universities, including Münster, München, Berlin, and Essen, and obtained his doctorate from Humboldt-Universität zu Berlin in 2000. Following his postdoctoral work at the National Institute of Mental Health, he served as a physician at the Charité hospital in Berlin. Heekeren then led research groups at the Max Planck Institute for Human Development. In 2009, he became a professor at the Freie Universität Berlin, where he held various administrative roles, including Dean of the Department of Education and Psychology. In October 2021, Heekeren was elected as the President of the University of Hamburg, assuming office in March 2022. Alongside his professional achievements, he is a devoted family man.
