Dr. Javier A. Reyes, an esteemed economist, has assumed the esteemed role of Chancellor at the University of Massachusetts Amherst. Appointed by the UMass Board of Trustees, he has become the 31st leader of the flagship campus, beginning his tenure on July 1, 2023. With an unwavering dedication to public higher education, Dr. Reyes has held significant leadership positions at esteemed institutions such as the University of Illinois Chicago (UIC), West Virginia University, and the University of Arkansas. A proud Mexican native, he marks a historic milestone as the first Hispanic Chancellor in UMass Amherst's history, showcasing his commitment to advancing diversity and inclusion in academic leadership.
