John J. DeGioia is the 48th President of Georgetown University, and his tenure has spanned nearly four decades. Throughout his career, Dr. DeGioia has been instrumental in shaping and advancing Georgetown University as a leading institution for education and research. Having graduated from Georgetown, Dr. DeGioia has held various senior administrative roles and served as a faculty member in the Department of Philosophy. He assumed the presidency on July 1, 2001, and remains actively involved in teaching by offering an Ignatius Seminar each fall. This seminar is part of a program designed to provide first-year students with unique learning experiences that reflect the Jesuit value of cura personalis, emphasizing the care and development of the whole person.
