Jonathan Scott Holloway, born in 1967, is an esteemed American historian and academic administrator. He currently serves as the 21st president of Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey. In January 2020, Holloway was appointed as the president of Rutgers University and officially assumed the position on July 1, 2020. Prior to joining Rutgers, he held the role of provost at Northwestern University from August 1, 2017, until July 1, 2020. Before that, he served as the dean of Yale College and held the distinguished position of Edmund S. Morgan Professor of African American Studies, History, and American Studies at Yale University. During his tenure as president of Rutgers, Holloway successfully guided the university through the challenges posed by the 2023 Rutgers University strike, ensuring an appropriate response and resolution. As a respected historian and academic leader, Holloway brings a wealth of experience and expertise to his role at Rutgers University.
