He concurrently worked as a researcher associated with the CNR Institute for the Sustainable Protection of Plants.

He served as the Director of the Department of Agriculture at the University of Naples Federico II and actively participated in various academic committees, including those related to doctoral programs and degree courses.

In 2020, Matteo Lorito took on the esteemed role of Rector at the University of Naples Federico II, leading this prestigious institution into a new era of academic excellence.
