Pierre Réal Overview

General Pierre Réal took over as the Commander of Air Base 701 Salon-de-Provence and Director General of the Air and Space School on August 25, 2022. He succeeded Air Division General Dominique Arbiol, who had held the position since July 2020.

Pierre Réal's impressive journey in the military began when he graduated from the Air School in 1992 and later completed his studies at the Hunting School in Tours in 1995. As a combat pilot, he served in various critical locations, including Chad, Saudi Arabia, and Kosovo, in 1997 and 2004. Subsequently, he assumed the role of deputy to the Rafale program officer.

His career took a different direction in 2011 when he became the deputy chief of staff to the chief of staff of the armed forces. Following this, he commanded the Dijon air base and defense base in 2014. In 2016, Pierre Réal was appointed as the head of the "unconventional" strategies office within the General Directorate of International Relations and Strategy, showcasing his versatility in military roles.

His educational journey also includes a stint at the United States Air Force Academy as part of an exchange program focusing on Aerospace, Aeronautical, and Astronautical Engineering in 1993. Additionally, he has participated in various military activities and associations, such as being a part of the fencing team and glider activities. In 2018, he further enriched his military knowledge as an auditor at the Centre des hautes études militaires.
