Richard Paul Saller, an esteemed American scholar in European studies, has held significant leadership roles in academia. Formerly serving as the provost at the University of Chicago and as the dean of Stanford University's School of Humanities and Sciences, Saller currently holds the prestigious position of the university's president.
Following the announcement of Stanford University President Marc Tessier-Lavigne's resignation on July 19, 2023, the board of trustees swiftly appointed Saller to assume the role of interim president, commencing on September 1.
Saller's academic journey began with his birth in 1952. He pursued his academic aspirations, securing BAs in history and ancient Greek from the University of Illinois, Urbana-Champaign in 1974. Subsequently, he earned his PhD from the University of Cambridge in 1978, cementing a strong foundation for his scholarly endeavors.
