Robert J. Jones assumed the role of chancellor at the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign in 2016. Prior to this, he served as the president of the University at Albany, State University of New York (SUNY). With a background as a distinguished scientist and leader in the field of research universities, Jones brings a wealth of experience to his position. Born in Georgia in 1951, Jones holds a bachelor's degree in agronomy from Fort Valley State College, a master's degree in crop physiology from the University of Georgia, and a doctorate in crop physiology from the University of Missouri, Columbia.
