Scott Sprenger Overview

Dr. Scott Sprenger took over as the President of The American University of Rome on July 1, 2020. His journey to this significant role has been marked by notable academic accomplishments. Before his presidency, he served as the Provost of The American University of Paris (AUP), and also held positions as Dean of the College of Arts & Humanities at Weber State University and Associate Dean of the College of Humanities at Brigham Young University (BYU). Additionally, he has contributed as a Professor of French Literature and European Studies.

Dr. Sprenger's administrative responsibilities, encompassing both provost and dean roles, have spanned a diverse spectrum. These include strategic planning, institutional budgeting, curriculum oversight, international programs, and the establishment of research centers, among other activities. At AUP, he successfully secured grants to enhance first-year programs and establish essential research centers. He also led the creation of significant centers with private funding, including the Center for the Study of Genocide, Human Rights, and Conflict Prevention.

His impact extended to BYU, where he initiated Humanities+, an inventive initiative aimed at linking liberal arts with global career prospects. This innovative approach has received national recognition and praise from esteemed institutions.

Dr. Sprenger's educational journey comprises graduate degrees in French Studies from Johns Hopkins University and Emory University. His dedication to academia earned him the prestigious Fulbright Scholar award, reflecting his commitment to academic excellence.
