Whittington Whiteside "Whitt" Clement is a prominent Virginia lawyer and Democratic politician. He had a successful career in public service, serving seven terms in the Virginia House of Delegates from 1988 to 2002. His contributions to the state also led to his appointment as the Virginia Secretary of Transportation during Governor Mark Warner's administration. Clement was born in Danville, Virginia, and received his education from the City of Danville public schools and Episcopal High School in Alexandria. His formative years coincided with the state's Massive Resistance crisis. He pursued higher education at the University of Virginia, where he obtained both his undergraduate and legal degrees. Clement's exceptional academic achievements earned him a distinguished student award in 1970, and he was also honored with a Raven Award. After completing his studies, he gained valuable experience by working as a clerk for U.S. District Judge John A. MacKenzie in Norfolk.
