Halic University Overview

Haliç University, founded in 1998 in Istanbul by the Bizim Lösemili Çocuklar Vakfı (Our Leukemic Children Foundation), stands as a prominent foundation university with a mission to enhance industry-university collaboration and provide quality education for expert development. Commencing its official academic journey on November 23, 1998, the university offers a diverse range of faculties and schools including Science and Literature, Medicine, Engineering, Business Administration, Nursing, Aquaculture, Physical Education and Sports, Health Sciences Institute, and Conservatory.

Throughout its evolution, Haliç University expanded its scope by establishing institutes in Science and Social Sciences, adding the Faculty of Fine Arts and Faculty of Architecture through Council of Ministers decisions, and introducing the School of Health Sciences and School of Physical Education and Sports based on Higher Education Council and General Assembly resolutions respectively. Notably, students benefit from ".edu.tr" email services.

In 2016, due to governance concerns, the university temporarily suspended activities, with students continuing their education through Istanbul University. Later, the governance was temporarily transferred to Istanbul University. Subsequently, the university's management was returned to its founding foundation in line with Private Higher Education Institutions Regulation, reaffirming the foundation's role. The new Board of Trustees, led by Chairman Mehmet Naci TOPSAKAL, assumed leadership. Prof. Dr. Melek Güneş YAVUZER became the Acting Rector, succeeded by Prof. Dr. Melih Bulu in 2020, followed by Prof. Dr. Zafer Utlu in 2021.

Presently, Haliç University educates approximately 10,000 students in seven faculties, two vocational schools, one conservatory, one vocational school, and three institutes, offering diverse programs at different academic levels.
