Established in 2001 by the Istanbul Chamber of Commerce Education and Social Services Foundation, Istanbul Ticaret University is a prominent private foundation university in Turkey. Operating across two campuses in Istanbul, the university benefits from the robust support of the Istanbul Chamber of Commerce (ITO). Positioned centrally in Istanbul, the university boasts six faculties, 24 departments, four institutes, and an impressive lineup of 65 postgraduate programs. The historical roots of Istanbul Ticaret University trace back to the aspirations of Mehmed Said Pasha in the late 19th century. He envisioned an organization that would unite sector representatives to address trade and industry challenges. This vision led to the establishment of the Dersaadet Chamber of Commerce in 1882, which later evolved into Istanbul Chamber of Commerce during the Republic period. The idea of creating a university under the chamber's umbrella emerged in 1992 and gained official approval under the name Ticaret University. In 2001, the university was established through the efforts of the Istanbul Chamber of Commerce Education and Social Services Foundation, making it one of Turkey's pioneering private universities.

The university's affiliation with the Istanbul Chamber of Commerce has shaped its teaching philosophy, promoting a close alignment with the business world. This connection is reflected in the university's curriculum and approach to education. The administrative authority lies with the board of trustees, elected by the Education and Social Services Foundation of the Istanbul Chamber of Commerce.

Istanbul Ticaret University operates across two campuses: the Sutluce Campus and the Kucukyali Campus. The former, established in 2013 on the Golden Horn coast, houses faculties such as Business, Communication, Humanities and Social Sciences, and Law. It offers state-of-the-art facilities, including practical courtrooms, media workshops, and specialized laboratories. The Kucukyali Campus, located on the Anatolian side, is home to the Faculty of Engineering and the Faculty of Architecture and Design. The campus features modern amenities, including well-equipped laboratories catering to various disciplines.

The university places a strong emphasis on foreign language education, primarily focusing on English proficiency.
