Kayseri University Overview

Kayseri, a city rich in history spanning over 6,000 years, is renowned as the esteemed hub of scholars, recognized as Makarr-ı Ulema.

The establishment of Gevher Nesibe Hospital and Madrasa in 1206 marked the cornerstone of higher education in Kayseri. This historic institution, also hailed as the world's inaugural medical faculty, was commissioned by I. Gıyâseddin Keyhusrev, the Anatolian Seljuk ruler, in honor of his sister Gevher Nesibe Sultan. Serving as a medical facility and educational center, it played a significant role until 1890.

During the Republican era, the esteemed Gevher Nesibe Medical Faculty, affiliated with Hacettepe University, was inaugurated in 1969. In subsequent years, Kayseri Business Faculty (1977) and the pioneering faculties of Kayseri University (1978) were established.

In 1982, Kayseri University underwent a transformation and assumed the name Erciyes University, following the integration of Kayseri Higher Islamic Institute (currently Erciyes University Faculty of Theology), founded in 1965, and Kayseri State Architecture and Engineering Academy (now Erciyes University Faculty of Engineering), established in 1977.

The journey continued with the establishment of the Faculty of Applied Sciences (2012) and its elevation to a full-fledged faculty in 2018. Similarly, the Technical Sciences Vocational School, which commenced its educational endeavors in 1975 and affiliated with Erciyes University in 1981, along with Safiye Çıkrıkçıoğlu Vocational School (1996), Mustafa Çıkrıkçıoğlu Vocational School (1997), Develi Hüseyin Şahin Vocational School (2003), Social Sciences Vocational School (2003), Bünyan Vocational School (2006), Tomarza Mustafa Akıncıoğlu Vocational School (2011), and Pınarbaşı Vocational School (2012), all emerged as the pioneering faculties and vocational schools of Kayseri University. This transformation took place in accordance with the "Law on Amendment of Higher Education Law and Some Laws and Decree Laws" as published in the Official Gazette on May 18, 2018, under number 30425.

Furthermore, with the addition of Develi Faculty of Islamic Sciences, Develi Faculty of Social and Human Sciences, Faculty of Engineering, Architecture, and Design, as well as the vocational schools in Yahyalı, Yeşilhisar, and İncesu through relevant legislation, Kayseri University, founded in 2018, expanded its range to encompass four faculties and eleven vocational schools. Notably, the Faculty of Health Sciences, established in 2020, further contributed to the institution's growth, elevating the number of faculties to five.

Today, Kayseri University proudly serves as the second-largest educational institution in Kayseri, attracting a substantial student body. With five faculties, eleven vocational schools, a distinguished graduate institute, and a multitude of application and research centers, the university continues its mission with unwavering dedication.
