Aaron Johnson Overview

Dr. Aaron Johnson embarked on an academic journey that defied expectations, demonstrating the transformative power of perseverance and the pursuit of knowledge. Hailing from Sioux Falls, South Dakota, Dr. Johnson initially attended the University of South Dakota but found himself disengaged, leading him to drop out after one year. However, this decision marked a turning point in his life.

Driven to achieve more, Dr. Johnson relocated to Nebraska, where he dedicated five years to low-skilled, low-wage work. A moment of realization prompted him to enroll at Southeast Community College in Lincoln, Nebraska, where he eagerly embraced an accounting course that happened to commence the very next day. Demonstrating his tenacity and commitment, he excelled in multiple courses, ultimately earning an A.A.S. in accounting. Building upon this foundation, he obtained a B.S. in Finance from the University of Nebraska.

Emboldened by his newfound passion for teaching, Dr. Aaron Johnson ventured into the field of finance instruction. This experience solidified his decision to pursue graduate school, leading him to join the Economics department at the University of Arkansas in 2008. Recognized for his academic potential, Dr. Johnson was selected to attend a prestigious summer school conference in Iseo, Italy, in 2009. Subsequently, he relocated to Prague, teaching part-time while completing his dissertation. In 2012, armed with a Ph.D. and M.A. in economics from the University of Arkansas, Dr. Johnson assumed the role of Graduate Business Programs Manager at the University of New York in Prague.

At UNYP, Dr. Johnson's contributions extend beyond his role as a professor. Having served as the MBA director, he now plays a role in shaping the university's Entrepreneurship Center. With a primary focus on teaching and writing, he dedicates his professional hours to the classroom and academic endeavors. Dr. Johnson's research centers on development economics, specializing in microlending, poverty alleviation efforts, and related areas such as official development assistance (ODA) and family economics. He has authored working papers in these fields and maintains an avid interest in utilizing various technologies and exploring innovative teaching strategies.

Dr. Aaron Johnson, alongside his colleagues, is actively engaged in collaborative projects worldwide, exhibiting a global perspective and enriching the education delivered at UNYP. As a CFA charter holder and former non-profit finance director, he brings real-world industry experience to his teaching, inspiring students with innovative ideas and nurturing their intellectual growth.

However, it was during his graduate studies at the Walton College of Business in Northwest Arkansas that he delved deeper into the subject, driven by a desire to expand his understanding of the broader field beyond finance. His fascination with subtopics such as development economics and behavioral economics remains strong, providing fertile ground for his research pursuits.
