Alessandra Petrucci, who assumed the role of Rector at the University of Florence in September 2021, is a distinguished figure in academia. With a background in Civil Engineering and a Ph.D. in Applied Statistics, her journey is marked by a strong commitment to research and education.

Alessandra Petrucci's career took root in 1997 when she became a Researcher of Statistics at the Faculty of Political Sciences "Cesare Alfieri." In 2002, she ascended to the position of Associate Professor of Statistics at the Faculty of Psychology. Her academic prowess led to her becoming a full professor of Social Statistics at the Department of Statistics, Informatics, Applications "Giuseppe Parenti" in 2015.

Her dedication to the University of Florence is evident through her involvement in various capacities. She served on the Board of Directors from 2013 to 2016 and took on the role of director of the Department of Statistics, Computer Science, Applications "Giuseppe Parenti" in 2016. She has also been a valued member of the Academic Senate since 2016.

Alessandra Petrucci's influence extends nationally as well. From 2007 to 2014, she contributed as a member of the National University Council (CUN) for the area of economic and statistical sciences. Her leadership qualities are notable, as she chaired the Conference of Directors of the Departments of Economic Sciences and Statistics from 2019 to 2020 and held the position of chairman of the ANVUR Advisory Committee from 2016 to 2020. Notably, Alessandra Petrucci has been a CUN member representing the Conference of Italian University Rectors since June 2022.

Her academic journey began in earnest in 1994 at the University of Florence, where she delved into research related to durability, materials, surface engineering, and advanced electrochemical techniques for characterizing new materials. Since 2006, she has headed the Coatings and Industrial Corrosion Control Laboratory at the Department of Industrial Engineering.

Petrucci's scholarly contributions are significant, with over 200 scientific papers published in international specialized journals and books. She is also a seasoned conference speaker, having presented at numerous international conferences. Her expertise in the field is evident through her role as a guest editor for five special issues in specialized journals and three books.

She has actively participated in various international research projects, sometimes even as a coordinator. Additionally, Alessandra Petrucci has made her mark at over a hundred international conferences, delivering 25 plenary and invited talks across the globe, including in the United States, Canada, the Netherlands, Denmark, South Africa, Malaysia, and Iran. Alessandra's reach extends beyond academia, as she has served as a visiting professor at renowned institutions like the University of Mons in Belgium and UNAM in Mexico.
