Dean Lewis Overview

Dean Lewis is an accomplished academic who currently serves as the President of the University of Bordeaux. Born in Nîmes in 1965, he has a rich educational background and a deep passion for the field of electronics.

Dean Lewis's academic journey began when he completed his baccalaureate in Périgueux. Later, he enrolled in the Lycée Michel Montaigne in Bordeaux, where he spent three years in advanced mathematics preparatory classes. During this time, he developed a strong interest in the physical sciences and discovered his calling for teaching.

His pursuit of knowledge led him to the Ecole Normale Supérieure Paris-Saclay (formerly ENS Cachan), where he studied applied physics. After earning his teaching diploma, he returned to University Bordeaux I in 1992. There, he completed a DEA (Diplôme d'études approfondies) in instrumentation and measurements, followed by a thesis in electronics. Dean began his teaching career as a part-time lecturer at the Institute of Technology in the Physical Measurements department.

In 1996, Lewis fully dedicated himself to teaching and research at University Bordeaux I. Over the years, he achieved significant milestones in his academic career, progressing from a teaching fellow in the Physics Department to a lecturer in 1998, and eventually becoming a university professor in 2005.

Dean Lewis's commitment to education extended beyond the classroom. In December 2010, he was elected Vice-President of the scientific council, and in 2012, he was elected President of University Bordeaux I, succeeding Alain Boudou. One of his major goals as President was to support the University of Bordeaux's transformation into a comprehensive institution for science and technology.

Throughout his career, Dean Lewis has demonstrated a strong dedication to public service. He continued to serve the university community after the merger that created the University of Bordeaux in 2014. He was elected Vice-President of the board of directors and later became Vice-President of the academic board and Vice-President for human resources, where he focused on implementing a financially sustainable human resources policy aligned with the university's mission.
