Dionissios N. "Dennis" Assanis, a distinguished Greek academic administrator, scientist, engineer, and author, serves as the 28th president of the University of Delaware, a role he has held since June 6, 2016.
Born and raised in Athens, Greece, Assanis obtained his Marine Engineering bachelor's degree from Newcastle University in England in 1980. He pursued further studies at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, earning multiple master's degrees, including Naval Architecture and Marine Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, and Management, all in 1982. He also achieved a Ph.D. in Power and Propulsion from MIT in 1985
